The Machame route begins on the south-western side of the mountain and passes through some of the mountainas finest features: the cloud forest of Kilias southern slopes, the Shira Plateau, and the Barranco Campsite.AOne thing to note: Machame can become more crowded than other routes during high season.
- Regarded as one of the most popular routes as it can provide better acclimatization than Marangu Route
- Longer and steeper trekA(more ups and downs) and descends via Mweka Route
- Similar to Lemosho Route, it goes through cloud forest, Shira Plateau and Barranco Wall
- We recommend 7 days for the hike but could be shortened to 6 days (see below itinerary) or extended to 8 days for even better acclimatization
Below is a sample itinerary for a 6Aday MachameAtrek. As describedAabove there are many ways to summit and we can help you design the best route to maximize your ability to safely acclimate to the altitude of Kilimanjaro. Please contact our booking specialists to learn more!
